And in the beginning I created a... Skirt.

Turns out I didn't realize that I was going to start a blog when I started sewing... so I don't have too many pictures here... but no worries! We'll make this fun!
A little about me-- My name is Amanda and I love to sew!

This is me, with my favorite man Ever! His name is Fred. Really. I thought he was joking too. He's super fun, and this is us at a BSU game -- we had a blast.
We've been married for almost 6 years! (holy canoly, right?!)
As it were, like many of the things I love to do -- I am not the best at (okay, lets call a spade a spade -- I'm not even close to being the best-- I'm a beginner), but I'm working on getting some mad skills!
Here is how I plan to do it!
I went to the library and found a few books about sewing by people who were young-ish and seemed pretty fun with some cute designs. I found two (which I would definitely reccomend to a newbie -- or someone looking for some fun projects) called

which was super fun and a great intro to sewing!

Or

Which is the one I decided on, and let me tell ya why!
My issue with starting a project is usually that it costs so much to get started with it. For example, I wanted to make a skirt, which is pretty simple (or so I thought) but the fabric was $20 a yard, and I need over 2 yards, so even with my 50% off coupon, after I factored in the price of thread and elastic I  was at almost $25 for my skirt. I started that skirt in early december and still haven't finished it! (I promise you all that I WILL finish that skirt by the end of January.) So, that is my issue, I don't want to have to commit to a sewing project monetarily that I'm not sure I will LOVE -- especially while I am still learning and practicing, you know? SO back to the book. I like it because every project requires less than one yard of fabric -- and with my 40% off coupons I get from Joanns all the time, I can grab a yard of fun fabric for under 5 bucks and I can practice with it!
So this blogs purpose is to chronicle my journey of learning to sew. The plan is to do every project in the book, but if something else catches my eye, I'll probably throw a few other projects in.

I hope you'll join me on my sewing journey and perhaps try a few of the projects with me!
Talk to you soon!
